In the growing season, we offer opportunities for farm-based worship. These are open to the public and all are welcome. In 2017 we began farm-based worship with the “Blessing the Fields” service and continued with a monthly “Sabbath at the Farm” series. These services will be back in 2018.
Blessing the Fields – Sunday, May 20, 2018 – 4:30 pm
The Sunday before our Planting Party, we walk the farm and pray for God’s blessings on the land. This service is based on the ancient practice of Rogation Days, where the boundaries of a community were walked at the start of the growing season. We walk the perimeter of the farm, stopping for prayer along the way. At the end of the service we join in a potluck meal.
Please bring a dish to pass and wear sturdy shoes. If you would like to offer a prayer, please arrive before 4:15pm. Parts are distributed as people gather. If you would like to join in the potluck but not walk the fields, plan to arrive at 5pm. All are welcome.
Sabbath at the Farm – Second Sunday of each month, June through October – 4:30pm
Plainsong Farm is open once a month for rest, renewal, and common prayer. The farm opens at 4:30 for people to find a place in nature to pray or rest, or to make art, or to receive a farm tour. A prayer service that includes Scripture and shared reflection is held beginning at 5:00. A potluck dinner follows. Our indoor space is limited; in case of a downpour we update our Facebook page with cancellations.
In 2018, Sabbath at the Farm will be held June 10, July 8, August 12, September 9, and October 14.
